I wanted to write about a different tragedy happening today—the ephemerality of all relationships, especially as affected by technology such as email, texting, social media sites, blogs, phones, chats, etc. Electronically, we’ve never been more connected; physically, perhaps less connected.
Text:
We'll meet again someday,
Near here or far away,
We'll hug and kiss and reminisce,
Then walk away.
I'll search and find your face,
On some photo database,
And as I view I'll think of you,
And if we'll meet someplace.
We say we'll call and maybe write,
We start and stop then feel contrite,
We send our cards just now and then,
but always close from your best friend,
I'll read your scraps of text,
First one and then the next,
And through the lines I'll look for signs,
That you still care for me.
You live your life and I live mine,
and if we talk we say we're fine,
We'll never know what might have been,
What we once had is lost but then,
We'll meet again someday,
Near here or far away,
We'll hug and kiss and reminisce,
Then walk away, again.
They say that friends just come and go,
And while that might be true,
One should not cry if milk should spill,
Just clean it up, move on...but still,
We'll meet again someday,
Near here or far away,
We'll hug and kiss and reminisce,
But what if that is the last time?
